Well, things are starting to get a little bit back to normal here in NYC.  There were delays on my subway commute for obvious reasons, but I am super impressed with how quickly NYC is coming back from the disaster named Sandy.  I am back to work today and trying to get back into the swing of things.  Unfortunately, there are still people out there who need our help, and so I am looking for any opportunities to volunteer with Sandy relief this week if there is anything I can do after work, or for anything during the daytime this weekend.  Let me know if you hear of anything!

In other news, I escaped from the city for a quick trip to Maryland this weekend for my high school ten year reunion…yes I said TEN years!  How fast does time fly?  The Archbishop Spalding Class of 2002 held our reunion at Yellowfin in Annapolis, and it was a blast.  There were about 50 of my classmates there, and it was so great to see everyone and catch up.  It was a little funny to have name tags on considering in this day and age, most people are on Facebook, and we really know a lot about what everyone is doing already. But it was still nice to have some face to face conversations with friends I hadn’t seen in awhile.  ASHS is a place that I remember fondly, and I really enjoyed my four year experience there.  It’s a place that I made some of my best friends and a place where we created memories I will never forget.

“We’re the best, you know it’s true.  We’re the class of 2002!” -our class cheer 😉

{Style Envy} Fall Fuchsia

I have decided to add a little featurette to the blog called “Style Envy” in which every so often, I will feature the style of others I admire.  While their styles may be very similar or completely different from my own, they will all be something that I adore, appreciate, and believe worthy of sharing.  The first up on my “Style Envy” segment is my cousin, Marisa of Misa*Me Photography.  You have seen her before, but mostly on the other side of the lens!  This time, I got behind the lens instead and had her show off her fashionista side.  Marisa is always on the prowl for a good bargain buy, and that is part of what helps in her ability to almost never repeat an outfit!  She always has the most spectacular finds!  We were roommates for a year in college at the University of Maryland, and I used to constantly go across the hall to her room to hunt for fun accessories, and it was always a fun day when she decided to clean out her closet!

I just love the vibrant color of this flowy tie blouse, and it pairs nicely with these black skinny jeans.  This outfit is perfect for a warmer fall day.  I am also obsessed with this gold vintage purse!  If I’m lucky, maybe she will let me borrow it sometime.  Hint Hint.  Nudge Nudge.  😉

Still no power at the office and subways still not running from Brooklyn, so I am hunkered down working from home probably for the rest of the week.  Last night, the hubs and I went to a shelter at the Park Slope Armory to help some older folks who were evacuated from their homes in Rockaway.  I feel so bad for all the people out there who have had it much worse than we have.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you, and if there is anything I can do, please let me know.

XO,

Gina

Romantic Chambray

This past weekend, I headed back down to Maryland for my cousin, Alex’s, bridal shower!  The hubs and I headed down on Friday night and stayed with our other cousins, Marisa (Alex’s sister) and Brian at their house back in the woods of Annapolis.  They recently built a fire pit in their backyard, and with all the beautiful foliage, I thought it created a beautiful backdrop.

I have been wanting to wear the new casual chambray button down that I purchased, and decided to pair it with this ivory tulle skirt and ivory sheer tights to give it a more romantic and dressy feel for the bridal shower.  These booties were actually a gift from my Mom, who had originally purchased them for herself and decided she didn’t think she could rock them.  I gladly took them off her hands. 🙂  Thanks Mom!

Speaking of my Mom…my Mom & Dad are celebrating their Golden Anniversary today!  29 years on the 29th!  I am so happy for them, and I wish them an amazing day with many more happy years to come!  Love you.

And in other news…we are hunkered down in our Brooklyn abode staying safe from Hurricane Sandy.  I haven’t seen too much rain, but there is definitely a lot of wind.  We are prepared in case the power goes out (but I am hoping that it doesn’t.)  I have seen tons of pictures of the wrath of Sandy and all the flooding caused so far.  Hope everyone on the East Coast is staying safe!

This outfit was another great find from the GAP Outlet in the Outer Banks, NC.  I was immediately drawn to the vibrant colors of this sweater, and I love how the long sleeves pair with the short melon skirt.  This outfit transfers from the office (mine is pretty laid back!) to a night out easily.  The calf high boots are perfect for day, and you could dress it up with a heel for nighttime, no problem.

Tonight I am attending the 2012 New York Television Festival to support two of my friends and colleagues.  They have created an animated TV pilot that was chosen to premiere at this festival, and I am looking forward to seeing how it turned out.  I am very excited for them, and I wish them the best of luck with their show!

Color Pops & Polka Dots

I found this bright red-orange trench coat down at the outlets this summer when I was on vacation in the OBX.  I love how it pairs with the mint green pants and the navy and white polka dot button down.  For me, this was a great transition into fall, because you can cover up to keep from getting chilly, but you still get those bright color pops!  I chose these sparkly ballerina flats because of all the walking I have to do in the city, and they are so comfy!

This week is going by super fast!  I can’t believe it’s already Thursday.  The hubs and I are looking forward to a camping trip to PA this weekend with one of our fav couples, Erin & Rai (who made an appearance on the blog yesterday).

This week, I cannot seem to stop listening to this new song I was introduced to by Ben Kweller called “Full Circle.”  It’s definitely a feel good jam, and I’ve been bouncing around to it on repeat all through the city and the subway.  Check it out!

Weekend Wear

This outfit was perfect for a local Brooklyn weekend.  The weather had just started to cool down, so this new jacket was a perfect cover up for an overcast day.  These combat boots are also my most favorite and so comfortable for walking long distances in the city.  Spent some time in Williamsburg visiting a long lost 2nd cousin for brunch.  She and her boyfriend  recently moved to the city, so it was great to meet and catch up with them.

Jacket: American Eagle / Top: Urban Outfitters / Pants: Zara / Boots: Aldo (old) similar here / Bag: TJ Maxx / Earrings: Aldo / Ring: Forever 21 / Bracelets: J. Crew, Oia Jules, gifts from family / Necklace: NY & Company / Watch: Betsey Johnson / Sunglasses: NY Street Vendor

Okay, so I am STILL reminiscing on summer.  With the drop in temperature this weekend, I am missing the warm weather.  I promise to start embracing the fall soon.  These photos were also taken on our amazing family vacation in Outer Banks, NC.  I wore this to the birthday dinner for my sister and I at “Tale of the Whale.”  The photos are courtesy of Misa*Me Photography.

So many cakes! Celebrating all the family July & August Birthdays together.

My sister and I have our birthdays three days apart, and we have always shared our celebration. This year the family went to “Tale of the Whale” for some delicious seafood!

I have been coming to the Outer Banks, North Carolina for as long as I can remember.  It’s the one time of the year where all of my family gets together for a full week in three big houses and spends quality time together.  The OBX is a great place to kick back, relax, and just enjoy the beach and enjoy each other’s company.  This year was no different.  We spent every day lounging in beach chairs with our toes in the sand soaking up the sun.  We played numerous games of corn hole (or Bagg-o depending on where you are from) and pool volleyball with our makeshift net.  We had lots of family dinners including the annual meatball night & birthday night, late night jam sessions on the back deck, trips to our favorite restaurant, “Tortuga’s Lie,” (which will be featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives this season), BINGO night with Granny, family game nights, lots of wine and lots of laughs.  These are some of my favorite photos that I took with my new camera (Happy Birthday to me!) during our vacation.  Summer is my favorite time of year, and although we are now in the beginning of fall, I’m already looking forward to next year’s crazy Italian/Irish family vacay!

These photos were taken on our family vacation to the Outer Banks, NC in the middle of August.  My cousin, Marisa, is a portrait and wedding photographer, and she was wonderful enough to take the first fashion photos for popcorn and pandas.  It’s so fun to have a professional photographer in the family, because you never know when an impromptu family photo session will strike! (at least with the girls anyway.)

Thank you to Misa*Me Photography for your brilliance behind the lens!

Change is Good

New name.  New layout.  New blog?  Not exactly.

I have been thinking a lot about my blog lately, and while I LOVED the premise of the “Great Freakin’ Adventures of Gina,” I realize that I was limiting myself to only posting when I accomplished a breakthrough bucket list item.  Yes, those are probably the most exciting adventures of mine, but I am constantly partaking in adventures on a daily basis that although may not be bucket list worthy, they are still worth talking about…at least in my opinion.

I have a lot of interests including fashion, film, photography, writing, travel, etc. that I was not allowing myself a creative outlet for.  So I have decided to rename my blog as “popcorn and pandas” which for those of you that really know me, know that those are two of my favorite things.  All of my earlier content is still here, so you can still catch up on all the bucket list items you missed.  However, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself into only writing about bucket list adventures any longer.  While those will still be a huge part of my blog, I will also be posting about an assortment of other interests and adventures that come my way!  You will probably see a lot of changes to some of the content and the layout of my blog in the next few months as I sort out the details of my new site.  I hope you enjoy and stick around for the ride!

XO,

Gina
