Boardwalk Tribal

IMG_9132_Layers_v1

Two summer trends I am embracing this season are 1) obviously the maxi which you have seen a lot lately in previous posts, and 2) tribal prints.  I actually received this dress as a gift a summer or two ago, and I broke it out for a quick impromptu beach trip to Brighton Beach/Coney Island.  I also recently found this amazingly bright tribal necklace from Flair Accessories.  It was the last one, and I just had to snag it.  If you’re lucky, she may get some more in stock!  We had a great time watching the sun go down, reading our books with our toes in the sand, and walking along the boardwalk catching the last of the Puerto Rican Day Parade festivities.  I heart the summertime.

The storms seem to be winding down, and we are heading into (hopefully) a gorgeous weekend.  Do you all have anything special planned for Father’s Day?  The hubby and I will be spending our Father’s Day weekend preparing for him to be a father and me to be a mother at a weekend intensive child birth course.  I’m a little nervous, but excited to learn and get ready (as most we can) for our big day ahead.

I also want to wish a Happy Father’s Day to my own Father, as well as my Father-in-law and my Godfather.  You all have made a wonderful impact on my life and my husband’s, and we are so lucky to have the three of you.  While, we won’t see you this weekend, we are looking forward to our family reunion and belated Father’s Day celebration next weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Gina

Retro Rainbow

ModCloth had a sale recently, and I couldn’t help but snag a few retro-style items from their online store.  This rainbow frock totally brightens my day, and I’m in love with these new cat-eye sunnies.  I’m also excited that I was able to score another non-maternity dress to rock while prego.  That way, I can also wear it post-bump!  Little Man is getting bigger and bigger.  And Mom is too.  These photos were taken at 26 weeks, and today I hit week 27.  3rd trimester here we go!

After a beautiful weekend of sunshine, we have been getting some crazy storms up here!  I have to say, I’m glad it wasn’t the opposite.  We spent the weekend getting some errands done, picking up supplies for a small DIY house project, hanging out with friends for a birthday party and a cookout, playing some corn hole, and an impromptu trip to Brighton Beach/Coney Island.

Please send some love and prayers this way as my Uncle is currently having surgery today.  He’s been through a lot these past few months, and this surgery is extremely crucial to his health and well-being.  So any positive thoughts you can spare would be much appreciated!

Hope you all are having a good week so far!

Big Floppy Hat

IMG_8594_Layers_v1

In honor of Kentucky Derby weekend, I packed my big floppy hat and took it with me to Arizona.  I purchased it earlier this spring, and was obviously excited to wear it.  My belly is definitely starting to pop, and I wore this comfy outfit in Phoenix to meet my cousins for dinner.  Would love to see the different ways you wore your big floppy hats that weekend!  Tweet your pics my way to @popcornpandas!  Of course, Preakness hats are more than welcome too. 🙂

Dreary Monday here in NYC.  We had a great weekend seeing family and friends that were in town visiting, and I worked on creating a baby registry for my little guy.  Wow, and I thought a wedding registry was overwhelming!  Boy, was I wrong! It pretty much took me all weekend, but it’s finally complete.  Can’t believe I will be 24 weeks tomorrow!  Time is flying right by.

Hope you all have a great week!  Memorial Day Weekend is on the horizon.

There’s nothing I love more than a pop of neon to accessorize an outfit.  This spring and summer, neon is all the rage, and these are some of my favorite finds.  The weather has been up and down these past few weeks, and I am looking forward to the days when there will be some steady warmth around here.  These bright colors make me happy and can definitely spice up a neutral look.
I had this post prepared for Friday, but in light of the manhunt in Boston, and us having to travel up there for a wedding that day, I thought it was not appropriate.  It was an insane morning, but we made it to the suburbs of Boston safely.  The wedding ceremony had to be moved because of the lockdown, but the show went on!  My dear friend Jamie got married to his bride Kaitlyn, and it was a beautiful wedding.  Jamie and I have known each other since freshman year of high school, and he was my first guy friend at ASHS.  We’ve been through a lot over the years, and it was awesome to be there to celebrate his big day!  With the craziness going on in Boston, this wedding showed there was still some love in the air.  Stay tuned later in the week for some photos from this event!
Since officials were able to catch the second Boston Marathon bomber, we also got the chance to visit with my college roomie, Danielle, (otherwise known at Stewey…don’t ask) along with her husband and baby.  We had a great time walking around the city with them, going out to eat, and seeing first hand what it’s going to be like for us when our Lil’ Monkey gets here.
Unfortunately, I think I caught a cold over the weekend.  I am home with a nasty little bug today.  I hope you all have a good week ahead.

Gina

Okay, so I am STILL reminiscing on summer.  With the drop in temperature this weekend, I am missing the warm weather.  I promise to start embracing the fall soon.  These photos were also taken on our amazing family vacation in Outer Banks, NC.  I wore this to the birthday dinner for my sister and I at “Tale of the Whale.”  The photos are courtesy of Misa*Me Photography.

These photos were taken on our family vacation to the Outer Banks, NC in the middle of August.  My cousin, Marisa, is a portrait and wedding photographer, and she was wonderful enough to take the first fashion photos for popcorn and pandas.  It’s so fun to have a professional photographer in the family, because you never know when an impromptu family photo session will strike! (at least with the girls anyway.)

Thank you to Misa*Me Photography for your brilliance behind the lens!

#69 Take a Weekend Trip to the Hamptons

July 2-5, 2010

After spending 3 summers in New York City, I have been out to Long Beach, Jones Beach, Robert Moses Beach, (all in Long Island) and of course down to my favorite 1.2 miles Dewey Beach, DE and favorite family vacation spot, the Outer Banks, NC.  But never had I ventured out to what Manhattanites call the Manhattan summer extension…The Hamptons.  I had heard stories of luxurious houses, pools, beaches, clubs, and parties, but never had I the time nor the money to make it out there myself.  Not that I ever got that money…but I did get the opportunity to check out the Hamptons this summer…finally…on 4th of July weekend.

I was invited out by my good friend Ailie.  Her family was generous enough to have a whole boatload of us stay out at their July rental in Sag Harbor.  We headed out in what I would like to call “The Pimp Van” owned by my friend Jimmy’s family.  Jimmy drove, I navigated, and the rest of the crew watched “Cinderella” (typical) on the two hour drive out to the Hamptons.

If I’m being honest, I have to say that the Hamptons trip did not turn out the way I imagined that it would.  But I will say that it was definitely a learning experience!  I realized that sleeping in a room with 8 people and 3 dogs results in little to no sleep.  I realized that unless you own a house in the Hamptons or know who to call, there is no beach parking on the weekends resulting in a $100 ticket.  I realized that in order to go out to a cool bar or club in the Hamptons you must call a cab days ahead of time instead of hours.  I realized that most Hampton regulars do not enjoy wandering Manhattanites resulting in loud “Go back to the city!” chants from their cars while laughing at us walking the streets.  And lastly, I realized that you should read signs BEFORE getting into the bay in Sag Harbor, or else you may dive into toxic waters unknowingly.  Whoops.

Despite having to figure out the Hamptons the hard way, we had an amazing crew of people, and you couldn’t help but have a great time!  Ailie had all her Aussie family there including some cousins from London, and two other friends (Roz and Sharms) visiting from down under.  We had Jimmy who was kind enough to drive us back to Manhattan at the end of the trip.  From NYC we had Zack, Nicole, Karina, Adrienne, Steve, and his friend Mark (maybe Matt? sorry I can’t recall).  And representing CT we had Sarah and Melissa.

The trip was made complete with champagne mimosas on the beach, lots of sun, pool parties, multiple BBQs, tennis/volleyball/made up pool games, pool diving photos, fireworks, flip cup, great conversations, relaxation, walks through the cute town of Sag Harbor, an amazing drive viewing the ridiculous and luxurious houses in Southampton (complete with tennis courts and sky high hedges), and chatting until the wee hours of the morning.

All in all, it turned out to be a wonderful trip, and I owe a huge thank you to the Jenkins clan for their hospitality in their summer home.  Next time I am able to venture out to the Hamptons I will now know the ropes!
