Here is the last of my summer outfit posts, and it’s definitely feeling like fall now.  To keep wearing these pieces into the new season, you could always throw on a pair of tights under the skirt or a blazer over the top.  I am very into getting as much use as possible out of every article of clothing in my closet for as long as I can!  I love the idea of pattern mixing, and I think it works as long as you stay in a similar color palette.  Stripes and florals are two of my favorites, so why not mix them together?

This past weekend, we took Nico to the pumpkin patch, and my what a difference from last year to this year!  He was so excited about the orange “balls” as he called them, and was crawling all around the patch exploring.  We drove out to Stakey’s Farm on the North Fork of Long Island for pumpkin picking, apple cider donuts, and a corn maze.  We also stopped off a Briermere Farm for apples and a raspberry creme pie.  One way to get me to embrace the colder weather is certainly through my stomach.

Hope you are all having a great week so far!

Gina

Happy 2nd Birthday to P + P

A birthday cupcake with two lighted candles.
While I was down for the count last week, my little here blog turned TWO.  It’s been a lot of fun having this little creative space, and although I’ve had less time for blogging this year, it’s still just as enjoyable for me.  Thanks for continuing to come back here day after day to read and comment and share.  Truth is, I blog for myself, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t love all the support.  It makes taking the time out for a post even more worthwhile.  I would love to hear any feedback you have for the upcoming year of p + p.  If there are particular things you like or dislike, what you want to see more of, if there is something I haven’t touched on that you are interested in, etc.  Comment below!  Now, I have put together a recap of some of your favorite posts from the past year:

You enjoyed Nico’s Nursery photos:

And there you have it folks…you’re favorite posts from the past year.  Looking forward to what the 3rd year will bring for p + p.

Speaking of birthdays…since I have been so terrible at remembering them this year (my sincere apologies to those of you, you know who you are!)…I’m taking advantage of the fact that I remembered this one today…and I want to wish a Happy 30th to my cousin and half brain, Misa.

Hope you are all enjoying the week so far!

Be Radiant

I was recently invited to the Demi Lovato World Tour at the Baltimore Arena thanks to the Radiant Collection from Tampax and Always.  Unfortunately, I was unable to make the concert…but for a good reason!  I was celebrating my Little Monkey’s 1st Birthday.  That being said, I decided to send my nieces (and huge Demi Lovato fans) to the concert in my place, and the experience was over and beyond anything in their imagination.

Demi was recently named by MTV among the  Best Dressed at The Teen Choice Awards, and there is no doubt that girls look up to her as role model.  She not only carries a “Wear What You Want” attitude and confidence, but she also participates in amazing, motivational volunteer work around the world.

On the day of the show, my nieces Brianna and Brittany were escorted to the Wear What You Want Closet, featuring a red dress Demi wore at the VMAs.  There was a photo booth, selfie station, and an opportunity to meet Demi herself!  I had no idea that would be part of the night’s events, and neither did they!  They were over the moon to meet her in person, and one of them said it was the “best early birthday present ever.”  I think I just might have won the “Coolest Aunt” title this week (sorry Jen ;-)).

During the concert, they had stage-side seats with an amazing view of Demi and also the opening acts, MKTO and Christina Perri.  A man named Spencer West, who is a double amputee, partnered with Demi and Free the Children and gave a motivational speech to the audience about never giving up on your dreams.  Demi also spoke about the limited edition rafiki friend chains on sale during her tour and how 100% of the profits will go to a women’s empowerment center in Kenya.

On the overall experience, my niece Brianna stated, “The entire experience was amazing and we are so thankful.  She is my favorite singer and role model, and getting to meet her is something I never imagined. Not only did she inspire us with her music but with everything she’s been through and is doing to help others.”

The girls took the following photos at the concert and events which I have shared below:

It looks like it was an amazing time, and I’m so happy my nieces were able to have this experience to hold onto.

If you are interested in helping Demi and Tampax in this effort, please share a selfie on Twitter or Instagram showing off your unique, radiant-inspired look using #BeRadiantSweeps.  Participants using this hashtag will automatically be entered for the chance to win a grand prize trip for four to Brooklyn, NY to meet Demi as well and attend her concert in style.

For exclusive backstage footage on Demi’s tour and “Wear What You Want” inspiration, be sure to follow Tampax on TwitterFacebook and Instagram.

On Brianna – Romper: Forever 21 / Sandals: Michael Kors / Necklaces: Forever 21

Introducing my beautiful niece, Brianna.  You may remember a few posts way back when from my Style Envy segments with Marisa and Alex.  Every now and then I like to showcase someone else’s style rather than my own, and Brianna was looking so adorable in this romper while we were on vacation in Cape May that I just had to snap some photos at the beach.  Rompers made a small come back last summer, and they are still in full force this season.  It’s so nice to only think about one piece.  No need to worry about which top is going to go with which bottom.  Matchy matchy tops and bottoms have also been a trend this season, so why not just buy one piece and call it a day?  Of course, everyone’s main complaint about rompers is the ever-annoying hassle of going to the bathroom, but in my opinion, it’s no big deal to suck it up for a day for the sake of fashion.  That’s what we women do, right?

Onto my niece…Bri is one of those people with a natural easy-going attitude.  She’s always down for an adventure, for trying fun new things, and she’s a total pleasure to be around.  Throughout the week whenever someone would make a suggestion about something fun to do, she was always up for it.  No matter how weird to crazy the activity, she was always excited to partake.  Want to go play skee-ball at the arcade?  Yup.  Want to go for a walk?  Yup.  Want to take photos on the beach?  Yup.  Want to go get ice cream?  Yup.  Want to go on a four-person family bike?  Yup.  She reminds me of my husband (her uncle) never wanting to sit around.  Always go go go…they might miss something or won’t be able to enjoy the most out of their vacation if they are relaxing too much.  We had a blast hanging out at the beach, and I only wish she and my sister-in-law could have stayed longer!

On a final note, I turned 30 over the weekend.  That’s right THIRTY.  Holy crap.  Where does the time go?  I remember when I used to think thirty was so old.  It’s crazy how much I have grown and changed in the last decade.  Met Zack, graduated college, moved to New York City, got into the animation/advertising industry, partied my ass off, traveled, got married, moved to Brooklyn, slowed down, had a baby, and now I’m a mom of an almost 1-year-old.  My twenties were a lot of fun indeed.  As scary as 30 sounds, I do admit, I am excited to embrace this new decade with the clarity, responsibility, and self-awareness that I did not always exhibit in my twenties.  Sure occasionally I know I will miss my carefree days, but my life is all about my family and closest friends right now, and I couldn’t be happier.

Special thanks to my husband for planning an amazing 30th surprise weekend for me complete with Six Flags, a fancy dinner, a night on the town, and finished with a beach day.  I am a lucky lady.

Hope you are all having a great week!

Gina

Insta-Snaps from New Hampshire

We spent Memorial Day Weekend up in New Hampshire near the Wolfeboro area and Lake Winniepesaukee.  While it was rainy and cold a lot of the time, we did manage to get some sunshine and some great hikes in.  We stayed on Lower Beech Pond overlooking the water in a fantastic lake house with good friends.  We drank wine, cooked delicious meals together, played games, explored the town of Wolfeboro, and took in some stunning views.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen a lot of these, but here are a few snaps from our trip.

Such a stunning view!

Some other places we visited that aren’t photographed here:

1. El Centenario: Delicious Mexican fare – We loved the fresh homemade chips and salsa, chile relleno, and chicken enchiladas they had to offer.  The staff was very friendly, and we would definitely go back here.

2.  Downtown Grille:  We came here for coffee and enjoyed their lattes so much, we came back again on the way to drop our friends off at the airport!  I enjoyed both the Blueberry Cobbler latte and the Milky Way. Yum!  If we go back, I would like to try their breakfast as well.

3. Sandy Martin Art Gallery: We had a lovely conversation with owner and artist, Sandy.  She is an extremely talented artist in multiple mediums including oil paints, watercolors, photography, & more.  She loves music and hosts parties within the gallery featuring local musicians on the in-house piano and guitar.  She also knows all the town gossip and Jimmy’s Fallon’s whereabouts when he comes to town.  Definitely a nice stop in!

4.  Sprout’s: Featuring lots of children’s toys, clothing, and gifts.

5. Details: Great little boutique stop for gifts and accessories.  Also have an adorable dress selection.  I walked away with a dainty little flower crown that I love!

6.  Jake’s Seafood: Enjoyed steamers, haddock, chowder, and lots of other yummy seafood here!  Outdoor seating is nice as well.

7.  Castle in the Clouds: A beautiful stop with a beautiful view.  It was rainy and we were hungry, so we didn’t end up doing the tour, but we did have some lunch (I had a lobster roll…drool!) at the Carriage House.

We had such a great time on our trip, despite the inclement weather.  I’m glad we were able to get two great days of hiking in, but I think next summer if we go back to New England, we will try for the 4th of July weekend again so it will be warm enough to jump in that lake!

Hope you are all having a great week!

Also a fan of these suits from grey dog (not pictured).
Memorial Day Weekend has passed which means it’s officially summer in my eyes!  We went north to New Hampshire over the weekend, and lucky for me, I didn’t have to put on a bathing suit.  I know lots of women tend to be self conscious at the beginning of summer.  Leftover weight from the holidays that hasn’t come off…pasty pale skin that hasn’t gotten tan yet.  You know the drill.  It’s normal.  Only this summer, I’m feeling a bit more self conscious than usual.  I mean, last year I was pregnant in a bathing suit, so as uncomfortable as that might be, at least I felt that I could own my body and be proud that I was carrying a little guy in there.  Now, 9 months post birth, I am feeling great, and I have shrank back to my pre-pregnancy weight…and even back almost to my wedding weight!  I should be screaming and jumping for joy at my accomplishment!  However, it’s been said time and time again not to look at the scale.  The scale does not measure how you look and feel.  My body has been through a year, oh it has.  I’ve been stretched out and starved for time and I’m completely out of shape.  Breastfeeding and walking have gotten the weight off, but my body looks completely different than I am used to.  My belly is much squishier, and that jiggle jiggle is anything but attractive.  I have been patient with getting back to my normal self.  No crazy diets or workouts here.  Just steady walking, breastfeeding, and trying to eat healthy when I can.  What I really need is time to tone.  Or maybe I just need to make it a priority.  It’s tough, this mom thing.  By the time I get home from work, it’s time for Nico’s bath and bedtime routine.  After that, it’s cooking, dinner, clean-up, and I maaaaybe have an hour or so to get anything done, yet I am exhausted.  The last thing I want to do is a work out at 10pm that would keep me up even later with all the adrenaline.  I do hope and plan to get back on some kind of fitness routine in the near future, but in the meantime…it’s bathing suit season people, and what is a beach-loving mommy to do?
Well…I have decided to embrace and love the body I currently have and find a suit that flatters it as much as I can.  Work with what ya got, right?  Besides, my body got this way because of the incredible tiny human who now fills my life with so much joy.  There is something to be said for that.  We moms make sacrifices for our children every day, and if a little extra belly fat is what it takes to be blessed with such an amazing little boy, then so be it.  Luckily, vintage/mod/retro style suits are all the rage right now, and I am planning on rocking an adorable high waisted swimsuit or one-piece this summer.  Who says you can’t look hot in a onesie!?  The most important thing is that I am comfortable, so I am going to go with what works for me right now.
Would love to hear from any new mamas on what you plan on donning to the beach this summer?  OR if you have any great fitness routines that you swear by, I would love to hear from you as well!
Hope you have a happy one!

Gina

Maxi Dress: Forever 21 / Hat: P. Luca for Barami – similar on eBay / Shoes: ALDO / Scarf: Gifted – similar / Jacket: American Eagle – similar / Necklace: Vintage / Aviators: NY Street Vendor / Watch: Michael Kors (now on sale!) / Bracelet: J. Crew – also love this gold pave link bracelet / Earrings: Forever 21 / Lip: MAC Impassioned

Along with spring cleaning, we also joined my grandmother and aunt for lunch over the weekend while they were in Brooklyn for the day.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, I’m excited to break out the dresses again.  A maxi dress lends itself to putting together a complete look quickly.  It allows you to stay comfortable, but also put together at the same time.  Nico is just starting to be a bit more mobile and with all the chasing I imagine on the horizon, I have a feeling maxi dresses are going to be a staple item again this summer.  The only difference (as I quickly learned Saturday) is that I am going to have to hem my maxis.  They tend to run a little long when I’m sans baby bump!

In case you missed my post yesterday, I’m hosting a little closet sale over on Pinterest if you are interested in checking it out!

Hope you are all having a great week so far!

P + P Spring Closet Sale!

Spring Closet Sale

Hello there lovely readers!

You know when your closet gets so messy that you can’t even see the floor anymore?  Things piled so high, so utterly disorganized, that you give up and just forego cleanliness and keep piling things on in heaps?  No?  Is that just me?  Well, my closet had definitely gotten to that point, and this weekend I finally decided to do something about it with a little spring cleaning.  I must admit, I have a little bit of a hoarding tendency.  My husband is constantly getting on my case about throwing things away.

Zack:  I mean Gi, do you really need to keep every birthday card, soccer trophy, and note you passed in 8th grade?

Me:  YES HONEY I DO.

When it comes to clothing, I am not much better.  I usually keep things around until they are unwearable. Clothes stick around in my closet waiting for a day when that trend will “come back in style.”  I have sorority T-shirts that I don’t even wear anymore, but I cannot bear to part with because of all the memories associated.  A dress that I didn’t wear all summer will sit there with the clear intent that I will wear it.  Then that summer goes and passes, and the dress is still hanging by its lonely self hoping for the following summer to grace the world with it’s presence once again.

That being said, it’s tough to hoard in a two bedroom apartment with a husband and a baby.  The things pile on and the clutter becomes absurd.  Gretchen says de-cluttering is one of the keys to happiness, and I certainly agree that lack of clutter has eased my stress in the past.

So there you have it.  On a quest to staying happy and relieving stress, I spent the weekend cleaning.  And here is my first little online closet sale to show for it.

Here’s the scoop:

1) I created a Pinterest board with all the items for sale.

2) If you want to buy an item, write “Sold” in the comments section along with your PayPal email.  If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can create one here.

3) Half of all proceeds will go to a Reader’s Choice charity.  After you write your intent to buy an item, please cast your vote for your charity of choice.  I will then randomly select a charity from the reader’s votes to make the donation.

4) Shipping is not included.  All items will be sent standard USPS.

5) All items are final sale.

Happy Shopping!

Gina

Rainy Day Essentials

As I sit and listen to the rain fall against my windowpane, it only seemed appropriate to put together a collection of rainy day essentials.  While the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers, I’m willing to bet we will still get a fair amount of rain this spring.  These pieces help to embrace the stormy weather while we wait for brighter days.
Rainy Day Essentials
1.  Wide Brim Hat: ASOS – To cover your head on those days when it’s sprinkling or when it’s too windy for your umbrella.
2.  Umbrella Studs: Etsy – Embrace the rainy day with these adorable studs.
3.  Panda Umbrella: ModCloth – I mean, is this not the cutest umbrella you have ever seen?!  I need this.
4.  Waterproof Mascara: Tarte – Because running mascara is not a good look.
4.  Rainboots: Hunter – Rainboots are a must in the city, and these bright pink ones boost my mood on a rainy day.
5.  Hairspray : Dove – For those frizzy fly-aways, because we all know rain equals a bad hair day.
6.  Teapot: Occa Home – The most adorable vintage teapot, because there is nothing like a cup of hot tea while you watch the rain fall.
7.  Rain Earrings: Etsy – Remember when we were kids and we used to splash through the puddles and get excited about the rain? These earrings bring me back to that place.
 8.  Raincoat: ModCloth – Who says you can’t look cute in the rain?  The polka dot raincoat is fabulous!
Happy Rainy Thursday!

I apologize for falling off the blogosphere the past few weeks.  I spent the holidays tending to a sick baby.  It was the most sad thing.  His little face looking up at me in too much pain to really cry.  Just moaning and groaning wondering “What the heck is wrong with me mama? Please fix it.”  At least that’s what I imagine he was trying to say.  It’s probably the hardest on us parents knowing our babies are hurting, and we can’t do anything to change it.  All I could do was give him Tylenol/Motrin and lots of snuggles.  He tried to be as happy as could be, and I love him for trying.  He’s the sweetest little monkey there ever was.

I had been dreading the first sickness, and I suppose it had to happen sometime.  I have to say, I am happy it’s over.  Although, we could not travel for Easter, we did manage to get down to Maryland this past weekend to see some family and friends.  It was nice to spend some quality time with the fam, and we even had a fun night out for a dear friend’s 30th (thanks Bubbe for babysitting)!  Sunday we participated in the John Petrovick 5K as a family and raised money for the neurology and neurosurgery unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  I also saw another dear friend to shower her with baby gifts for her little principessa on the way!

Back in New York, I feel swamped with a million things I “need” to do.  Unpacking being one.  Cleaning.  Laundry.  Gift buying.  The list goes on and on.  But I am glad I decided to forego all of that for the moment to come back to my little space here that I have missed these past few weeks.

Hope you are all having a happy one!

XO,

Gina
