2015 in Review

A lot has happened in this past year…

I embarked on a new career as a health & fitness coach last January and I have since been able to help over 120 challengers to reach their goals and 8 coaches to build a business of their own. I am continuing to help those who want to make changes in this brand new year.

I found out I was pregnant with our second child in January, and we did a fun little photo shoot in Prospect Park to find out we were expecting a BOY!

I felt a little bit tougher this time around during my pregnancy and made my health and fitness a big priority for both myself and my family.

28weeks

We took a trip to Tulum, Mexico as a family and it was a crazy fun adventure.

I rocked a two piece dress during my pregnancy which Lord knows I never thought would happen! I also rocked a bikini.

I came up with a post all about exercises during pregnancy which many of you read and loved…I call them pregercises.

I had some fun collaborations with both Stella & Dot and Irresistible Me…I have to say I am obsessed with Stella & Dot jewelry, and I can now FINALLY use a curling iron without butchering my hair!

Before & After

I surprised my husband with a trip to the NOLA for our 4 year wedding anniversary.

We had an adorable family maternity photo shoot with my phenomenal cousin and professional photographer Misa Me.

We took our annual lake trip over the summer…this time we landed in Seneca Lake in the Finger Lake region of Upstate New York.

I also traveled 8 months pregnant to Nashville for the annual Beachbody Summit, and met my fabulous team of coaches in person to share a phenomenal life-changing experience. I also broke it down on the CIZE dance floor. (yes I was the awkward dancing pregnant lady)

My beautiful baby Luca was brought into the world and our world was forever changed for the better. This kid is the smiliest, happiest baby I have ever met and we are so in love.

My Nico Bonzo turned TWO this year with a TMNT b-day party. He started preschool, has become so independent, is making friends, and having full conversations these days. He astonishes me daily with how much memory he can retain in that little brain of his. I know he is destined for great things.

I started my own 21 Day Fix journey to get back to my pre-baby, healthy, active self again, and so far things are going really well. I told myself I would not wait so long like I did with my first babe to get back into shape, and I have stuck to my word.

We have celebrated many beautiful friends getting married this past year and wonderful holidays together with family. We are so very lucky and I am thankful for my blessings each and every day.

New Year – New You

NEW YEAR

Exactly one year ago, I decided I had enough of being unfit after having my first baby and made the commitment to my health and fitness by starting P90X and becoming and online fitness coach. Two days into the program, I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 which changed the course of my journey.

In this past year, I have built a business with over 120 challengers, trained a team of 9 coaches to do what I do, completed PiYo throughout my pregnancy, gave birth to a baby boy, completed 3 rounds of the 21 Day Fix program, and reached my pre-pregnancy weight while kickstarting my journey toward finally getting back to that healthy, fit self again.

Since starting this journey, my CONFIDENCE has been lifted, and I truly believe I can do anything I put my mind to whether in my personal life or in my business life.

Beginning JANUARY 4th, I am FINALLY going to take on that P90X journey that I wanted to begin one year ago. I’m actually going to do P90X3 (because 30 min per day is the perfect and realistic time frame for me to get a workout in with two babes), and work on toning in the new year.

It’s never to early for resolutions, so if YOU are looking to make a change in the NEW YEAR, then I would absolutely LOVE to have you come join me in starting your journey…either your health & fitness journey, or if you are looking for a new business opportunity.

I will be starting THREE groups on January 4th:

1) 21 Day Fix – comes with a color coded portion sized meal plan containers, 30 min workouts, 30 meals of Shakeology, and my accountability/support group

2) Mixed Program Challenge Group – I will work with you to determine a program that would be a good fit for you based on your likes and goals for health & fitness. Also comes with a meal plan, Shakeology, and my accountability/support group.

3) Coach Open House – For those looking for a new business opportunity in the new year – a way to make cash for shopping or vacations – or those who want to build a full time income on part time hours – this is the place to get a sneak peek behind the scenes look of what it’s like to be a coach.

It’s a NEW YEAR, so cheers to a NEW and IMPROVED YOU! It’s always the perfect time to make a change for the better ūüôā

Transformation Tuesday: 21 Day Fix Round 2

21DF Results Compare Side

Transformation Tuesday!

During my 2nd Round of the 21 Day Fix I lost 2 more pounds and 5.25 more inches. So from Day 1 to Day 42, I lost a total of 6 lbs and 12 inches.

It may not seem like much in terms of weight, but my photos show that you can’t just go by the scale! You can really see a difference (at least I think so) in the before/after shots. I can also definitely feel things have changed in the way my clothes fit. Those pre-pregnancy jeans are now feeling comfortable and not so super tight.

My journey is not over, but I am making progress and that’s what counts! It took me 9 months to carry that little baby to term, and it has only been 3 months postpartum. So I am feeling good and happy and strong with where I am today.

I indulged a little more than I had planned over the Thanksgiving holiday, but hey…that’s also part of why I’m working so hard right? To enjoy! Plus Round 3 started yesterday, and I am back on track for the month of December! Going to be hard to fight off some of those holiday temptations, but the best part about this plan is that it allows some treats! ūüôā

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. I am SO incredibly grateful and thankful for my family and friends. I am also thankful for all of you lovely readers who keep coming back here each day. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

Transformation Tuesday: 21 Day Fix Post-Pregnancy

38weeks

Remember this photo? This was me at 38 weeks pregnant, right before my little Luca decided to make his grand entrance! As most of you know, I was active throughout the majority of my pregnancy (aside from some 1st trimester morning sickness days and at the very end, I admit I was starting to lose some mobility!) I did feel a huge difference this time around in regard to my health and fitness compared to my last pregnancy. While I did walk a ton with my son, Nico, I definitely did not do any other strength activity as I did this time around. I managed to complete the entire PiYo program (combo of pilates/yoga), dabbled in some Turbo Jam (dance/kickboxing) and even CIZED it Up (hip hop dance) while 34+ weeks pregnant! It was a lot of fun, and I am so glad I did. I also think it helped me in regard to labor and delivery (which went super smoothly), recovery (which was quick), shedding a lot of baby weight, and being able to jump back into things quickly after.

I suppose that also has something to do with having a toddler. Toddlers do not exactly let you sit around and REST ūüėČ

So combined with a healthy-ish diet, walking around Brooklyn, and chasing my toddler, and nursing my newborn, I was able to shed 20 lbs of baby weight after 6 weeks post-partum.

I was very eager to get active again, and I decided to start with the 21 Day Fix Program that is so well-known and loved in my industry. After seeing challenger after challenger have success with this program and continue a healthy lifestyle going forward, I thought this would be the perfect way to not only kickstart my fitness journey again, but really get my nutrition in check for the long haul. The portion control containers REALLY opened my eyes to what I was eating on a daily basis and what I SHOULD be eating. I did eat well throughout most of my pregnancy…but you know…those pregnancy cravings…

I dove into the 21 Day Fix full force planning out my meals for the week and pressing play every.single.day. I was very determined to stay on track, and I am happy with the end result. I do have to remember that it took me 9 MONTHS to look the way I did when I was carrying Luca, so of course things are not all magically going to go back to normal after 21 days. It’s all about progress, not perfection. But I am happy to say that it’s working, and I am on my way back to my healthy, fit self again.

21DF Oct 5 Before After Front

21 DF Oct Before After Side

The “Before” photos were taken 6 weeks post-partum, and the “After” shots were taken on Sunday…21 days later. 4 pounds and 6.25 inches may not seem like a lot to some, but on my short frame, it’s actually quite a lot. And trust me…it was NOT easy for me to share these. Although I live my life on social media…I am still embarrassed and shy about putting something like this out where I don’t necessarily feel comfortable in my own skin just yet. But I think it’s important to show that it is a process, and if you keep at it, you will reach your goals. It’s only been 21 days, and I know¬†this is not a huge transformation, but I still have work to do. Hopefully I will be able to incorporate more ab exercises back in soon (as I have ab separation from my pregnancy and cannot do crunches, etc.) I am planning on doing another round of the 21 Day Fix starting up November 2nd, and I’m already planning out my programs for the new year. ¬†Who’s with me? Comment below with your e-mail, and I would be happy to send you more info!

I thought it would be terribly difficult to get my workout in with two little ones and working from home, but all it takes is a commitment. It’s all a mindset, and if you make yourself a priority for 30 minutes each day, you will get it done.

Hope you are all having an awesome week so far!

Gina

Numbers on a Scale

yes...i'm being serious...

Can you believe this health & fitness coach does not even own a scale?

“Is she serious?”

Yes, I’m serious.

Does this make me crazy?

I’ve never been a numbers girl, and quite frankly I never really wanted to get hung up on numbers on a scale. In the past 8 years since living on my own, I have only weighed myself at the doctor’s (or occasionally in a friend’s bathroom). In my opinion, it’s about how you look and about how you feel about yourself…not about a number on a scale.

That being said…since I started the 21 Day Fix and my post-pregnancy weight loss journey, I have to admit I am a tad curious about all the work I am putting in here! I am thinking I might cave in and get a scale just to see my end result at the end of the 21 Days.

And I promise not to be one of those people who stresses about checking every day, because like I said before, that is not what is most important. Health & fitness is an overall feeling and a lifestyle, and I do not want a lifestyle where I am obsessively checking my numbers each day. So I will buy a scale (recommendations welcome because I don’t even know where to start), check once, make a note, and tuck it away until further notice…

Curious, how often do you weigh yourself?

Hope you all are having a great week!

Gina

Also a fan of these suits from grey dog (not pictured).
Memorial Day Weekend has passed which means it’s officially summer in my eyes! ¬†We went north to New Hampshire over the weekend, and lucky for me, I didn’t have to put on a bathing suit. ¬†I know lots of women tend to be self conscious at the beginning of summer. ¬†Leftover weight from the holidays that hasn’t come off‚Ķpasty pale skin that hasn’t gotten tan yet. ¬†You know the drill. ¬†It’s normal. ¬†Only this summer, I’m feeling a bit more self conscious than usual. ¬†I mean, last year I was pregnant in a bathing suit, so as uncomfortable as that might be, at least I felt that I could own my body and be proud that I was carrying a little guy in there. ¬†Now, 9 months post birth, I am feeling great, and I have shrank back to my pre-pregnancy weight‚Ķand even back almost to my wedding weight! ¬†I should be screaming and jumping for joy at my accomplishment! ¬†However, it’s been said time and time again not to look at the scale. ¬†The scale does not measure how you look and feel. ¬†My body has been through a year, oh it has. ¬†I’ve been stretched out and starved for time and I’m completely out of shape. ¬†Breastfeeding and walking have gotten the weight off, but my body looks completely different than I am used to. ¬†My belly is much squishier, and that jiggle jiggle is anything but attractive. ¬†I have been patient with getting back to my normal self. ¬†No crazy diets or workouts here. ¬†Just steady walking, breastfeeding, and trying to eat healthy when I can. ¬†What I really need is time to tone. ¬†Or maybe I just need to make it a priority. ¬†It’s tough, this mom thing. ¬†By the time I get home from work, it’s time for Nico’s bath and bedtime routine. ¬†After that, it’s cooking, dinner, clean-up, and I maaaaybe have an hour or so to get anything done, yet I am exhausted. ¬†The last thing I want to do is a work out at 10pm that would keep me up even later with all the adrenaline. ¬†I do hope and plan to get back on some kind of fitness routine in the near future, but in the meantime‚Ķit’s bathing suit season people, and what is a¬†beach-loving¬†mommy to do?
Well‚ĶI have decided to embrace and love the body I currently have and find a suit that flatters it as much as I can. ¬†Work with what ya got, right? ¬†Besides, my body got this way because of the incredible tiny human who now fills my life with so much joy. ¬†There is something to be said for that. ¬†We moms make sacrifices for our children every day, and if a little extra belly fat is what it takes to be blessed with such an amazing little boy, then so be it. ¬†Luckily, vintage/mod/retro style suits are all the rage right now, and I am planning on rocking an adorable high waisted swimsuit or one-piece this summer. ¬†Who says you can’t look hot in a onesie!? ¬†The most important thing is that I am comfortable, so I am going to go with what works for me right now.
Would love to hear from any new mamas on what you plan on donning to the beach this summer?  OR if you have any great fitness routines that you swear by, I would love to hear from you as well!
Hope you have a happy one!

Gina

{21} Lately…

1922359_10102517161135758_978632910_n

Lately I’ve been…

reading  The seventh and final Harry Potter book!  I know it has taken me awhile to get through them all, but they are totally magical and worth it!

writing  Tons and tons of e-mails for work including invites to our events and follow up from past events.

listening¬† Patsy Cline. ¬†Nico’s new favorite lullabies. ¬†I know my Grandpa is with us when I sing to him at bedtime.

thinking ¬†That last week was¬†insane. ¬†Zack went to San Francisco on Tuesday. ¬†I had three days of back to back meetings with a client in town, and then Nico and I flew out to meet Zack in San Fran on Friday. ¬†That’s right‚ĶI flew across the country with a baby…solo…into a three hour time change…this section should be titled not thinking. ¬†However, I am proud to say, we made it, and it was all worth it!

smelling¬† Swiss Apple tea. ¬†Apparently it’s good for skin support. ¬†But I just love the way tastes and how it keeps me warm on these freezing cold nights.

watching¬†¬†Finally saw The DaVinci Code. ¬†The book was definitely better, but Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, so I’m glad I finally saw it.

wishing  That I had invested in snow boots this winter.  Who knew we would be getting pounded with this much snow?  I would have gotten this pair.

hoping  That my husband has a Happy 33rd Birthday today!  We love you.

wearing  Coats, coats, and more coats.  Thankfully, I have invested in some outerwear the past few years.  Definitely came in handy this winter.

loving ¬†Nico’s curiosity! ¬†He’s fascinated with the alphabet, and always stops whatever he is doing when we start spelling something to give us his complete attention. ¬†He’s also obsessed with his daddy’s guitar playing, and it’s a sure bet to stop him from fussing. ¬†It’s so awesome to see him start to notice the world around him.

laughing ¬†I’m constantly laughing with Nico every day. ¬†The sound of his laugh makes me so happy that I laugh right along with him.

wanting  Spring to arrive.  Sooner rather than later please!

needing  To pay the bills and do laundry tonight.  Meh.

feeling  Happy.  Although the past few months have had their ups and downs, I feel happy knowing that I have such a warm and loving family to be with each day or talk to on the phone or online each night.  My family is my happy place.

craving ¬†Warmer weather! ¬†I can’t say it enough!

clicking ¬†Through VRBO to check out places in New Hampshire for a weekend summer getaway with friends. ¬†Can’t wait!

What have you been up to lately?

I’m including an extra special picture in honor of the hubby’s birthday today. ¬†Doesn’t this just pull at the heart strings? ¬†Thanks to you, Zack, for being the best Papa in the world! ¬†Hope you have an amazing day. ¬†XOXO.

Lately I’ve been…

reading  Catching up on some magazines a bit.  Unfortunately, the trains have been super crowded since I have been back to work, leaving me to stand the entire time and making it difficult to get that reading done that I was hoping.

writing  E-mails, reel run lists, and finally getting back to writing blog posts again.

listening¬† Old school hip-hop has been making it’s way onto my car radio. ¬†Backspin anyone?

thinking  About booking that flight to San Francisco for the end of February, that Zack and I had an awesome much needed date night over the weekend, and that there is a ton of snow outside!

smelling  Leftover gingerbread coffee from the holidays.

watching¬†¬†Teen Mom 2 came back this week…woot woot! ¬†I have also been keeping up with the new season of The Bachelor. ¬†Go ahead and judge me.

wishing  That I could be in two places at once.

hoping  Our dear friend recovers from an accident he had recently.  It was super scary, and we are hoping he returns to good health soon.

wearing ¬†My new high waisted skinny jeans from Rag & Bone. ¬†Did I mention, I’m back to my old size again? ¬†Can you tell I’m excited? ¬†BTW…just because you go back to your old size after baby doesn’t mean you go back to your old body. ¬†I may be able to fit into the jeans, but I’m definitely a bit squishier these days (hence the high waisted) haha. ¬†Birth really takes a toll on you, but it was obviously worth it, and honestly, I’m not really stressing too much about it at this point. ¬†Maybe once bikini season is on the horizon I will be feeling differently‚ĶI’ve also been wearing this tartan scarf to keep warm in the snow.

loving ¬†That Nico is learning so much these days! ¬†He’s growing and changing so quickly right before my very eyes. ¬†Sitting up and rolling over all within a week span!

laughing ¬†At this photo of my husband. ¬†He is speaking at an upcoming conference in San Francisco (hence why I am thinking of booking a ticket there), and they chose this photo out of all the ones on the internet for his speaker profile. ¬†Just look for the guy who looks like the biggest douchebag, and you will find him. ¬†Sorry hunny, you know I love you, but this photo is ridiculous. ¬†It had us rolling the other night! ¬†Luckily, he is a good sport and he hasn’t asked them to take it down, because he thinks it’s kinda funny. ¬†Gotta love his sense of humor.

wanting ¬†Some hot chocolate with marshmallows. ¬†Yes, I’m five years old.

needing  To prepare myself for my first 5 hour car trip alone with the baby.  God help me.

feeling ¬†Already feeling the pull of being a working mom. ¬†I’m leaving work too early and getting home too late. ¬†Feels like you aren’t good enough at either job and the guilt starts setting in. ¬†I guess that’s just par for the course.

craving  More time!  So much to do, so little time!

clicking  Through Pinterest and design blogs for inspiration on how to redecorate our sunroom.  Trying to capitalize on an unfortunate situation by using this as an opportunity to start fresh, purge, and redesign the room.

Lately I’ve been…

reading  A little here.  A little there.  Chapter here. Magazine article there.

writing  Finished up my Christmas cards over the weekend, and sent them out this week!

listening¬† Christmas music…duh.

thinking ¬†I can’t believe the year is almost over, my maternity leave is coming to an end, and it’s almost time to go back to work. ¬†Bittersweet.

smelling  Roasted pork in the oven.

watching¬†¬†Vanderpump Rules (cringing as I write this, because it’s so trashy).

wishing  Everyone a Happy Holiday season and safe travels!

hoping ¬†That all my holiday gifts I ordered arrive in time and ship properly to my parent’s house.

wearing ¬†This tartan jacket, a gift from my aunt from last year’s Christmas.

loving ¬†That Nico is now sleeping through the night. ¬†I didn’t mind waking up once a night to feed him (he really is a great sleeper), but the two hour scream-fest before bedtime was not working. ¬†I now feel like a human being again since we aren’t fighting to put him to sleep every single night anymore.

laughing  At this Xmas Jammies video.  An interesting take on the holiday card, and also a smart way to plug the new family business.

wanting ¬†To get rid of this cough. ¬†Have been sick for about a week now, and can’t seem to shake it.

needing  To pack for our holiday trip to Maryland.

feeling ¬†SO excited for Nico’s first Christmas with my crazy, lovable family.

craving  Some new jeans.

Lately I’ve been…

reading  Attempting to read the 6th Harry Potter Book.  It tough to get a lot of reading done without my hour long subway commutes, but trying to enjoy a chapter here and there when I can.

writing  Questions to ask potential nannies.  We are starting our interviews this Wednesday.  Excited to find someone great for our little guy, but sad this means I will be spending a lot more time away from him when I go back to work.

listening  Frank Sinatra.  Nico just loves him!

thinking  I am happy the weather looks nice for this week!  Makes taking those walks around the neighborhood so much more enjoyable!

smelling¬† Blueberry coffee. ¬†It sounds kinda gross, but trust me, it’s awesome!

watching  Teen Mom.  Makes me so glad I have a stable, loving husband, a good job, a nice home, and lots of family support.  I could not imagine being a mom at their age.

wishing¬† That time didn’t go so fast. ¬†My little guy is growing up too quickly already.

hoping ¬†To go for another run this week. ¬†This past weekend I went out for my first run since getting pregnant and having a baby. ¬†I stayed active by walking, but hadn’t run in probably over a year! ¬†I suddenly got to the urge to get back out there, so I went for a 2 mile run, and it felt great! (despite now being sore haha). ¬†Hoping I can keep it up and at least get a run or two mixed in with my walking every week.

wearing  My typical mom gear of activewear.  Although, I actually did get to wear real clothes yesterday for a mini trip to Manhattan for a mani/pedi with a friend.

loving  The crockpot that my Grandma bought for us.  We tried it out this weekend, and made two awesome dishes: White Bean Chicken Chili and Carnitas Tacos.  I love being able to prep a meal quickly in the morning, let it sit all day, and come home to an amazing meal with leftovers!  Yum!

laughing  At the @HonestToddler Twitter feed I just discovered yesterday.  Cracking me up!

wanting ¬†My Christmas cards to arrive! ¬†Maybe it’s the fact that I now have a little guy this Christmas season, but I am extra giddy and excited this year.

needing ¬†Christmas lists from my peoples. ¬†I am ready to start shopping already! ¬†Send ’em over…you know who you are.

feeling  Happy that we were able to go to Florida and spend time with my parents and Grandma.  It was really great for them to spend that quality time with Nico, and it was nice for Zack and I to get some alone time as well.

craving ¬†Some snuggle time with my nephew, Nathan. ¬†It’s been too long since I’ve seen him…is it Thanksgiving yet?

clicking  Through weeks worth of blogs that I am behind on.
